MAPPING URBAN COMPLEXITYUrban-Architectural Research Initiative
One of the essential issues that renders city-life as complex and hence resistant to mapping (in a traditional understanding) is motion. The quest for speed, acceleration and movement posits itself against the static, challenging the position of the subject as a passive observer. In response to the questions of mobility as crucial to the understanding, tackling and representing of the contemporary metropolis, or ‘post-metropolis’, the Theory Department, and the DSD, Faculty of Architecture of the TU Delft have launched a collective research initiative entitled "Mapping Urban Complexity". This ’long-term’ project consists of a series of several analytical experiments and studies proposed in diverse cities in North America, Asia and Europe. (continua >)
